I flew to spain with healthcare abroad six months ago. They have given me my life back – ciara anne shanahan.

Ciara Anne Shanahan, from County Limerick, underwent knee repair surgery in Denia, Spain, back in March. This is her story now… “It has been six months now since my partial knee meniscectomy surgery at the HCB Hospital in Denia and I’ve healed and recovered nicely.

I’m back working in my job educating children. I am also travelling again, cycling, swimming and doing the things that I love. “None of this would have been possible without Healthcare Abroad. If I hadn’t made this decision I would still be on an endless waiting list with no pain relief. “I would be limping every day with severe chronic knee pain unable to walk for too long or barely able to stand – as all my jobs with educating children were very active and required me to stand for long periods of time.

This was extremely painful and agonising for me going to work every day In pain. “Now however I am happy. I am no longer limping. However due to being on such a long waiting list before I found the amazing people at Healthcare Abroad, this impacted my other leg really badly. So I will have to get my other knee fixed at some stage and I know who I will be calling to get it fixed – Healthcare Abroad.

“You don’t have to be on a waiting list to use Healthcare Abroad but if you are, I would encourage everyone to contact them to have a better quality of life so they don’t need to be living in pain on a continuous daily basis. That’s how I used to be; but not anymore.

“Thank you Healthcare Abroad for making this possible for me.” Healthcare Abroad is Ireland’s largest medical logistics company, matching Irish patients with world-class surgeons in private hospitals in the EU. Healthcare Abroad completes all the paperwork so patients get the cost of the procedures reimbursed by the HSE.
