“I used to have to sleep every afternoon because of fatigue. I felt drained. Since the operation, I’ve been able to stay awake all day, and I’m sleeping much better at night.”
Mary, from Kildare, is a pleasant woman who always has a kind word to say. Staying positive wasn’t easy when it seemed like she would never get the treatment she needed. “I was waiting four years for a hip replacement. I was told it was my spine, then I was told it was my discs. I couldn’t get a straight answer. Finally, I was told it was my hips. I was in agony, and I had to use a motor vehicle because walking was too painful. I was just given more and more painkillers, treating the symptom, not the problem. Most recently, I was given morphine patches, but they kept falling off. I didn’t want them, but they kept falling off.”
In pain and feeling exasperated, I rang to see where on the waiting list I was.
“‘You won’t get seen this side of Christmas, and you might not get seen next year.’ I broke down; I couldn’t take it. I had no life, I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t do anything. By the luck of God, my doctor mentioned Healthcare Abroad to me. I got talking to Sorcha, Chris, and Paul. That was the 16th of October, and on the 3rd of November, I was here.”
“You know, it’s just something else—the hotel, the hospital, the drivers—they do so much for you. Everything is so precise. You’re taken for physio in the morning and the afternoon. I don’t feel any of the pain that I did before, just a little bit from the stitches. The aftercare has been excellent, with regular dressing changes.” “I used to have to sleep every afternoon because of fatigue. I felt drained. Since the operation, I’ve been able to stay awake all day, and I’m sleeping much better at night.”
“I’m looking forward to getting back to doing the things I used to do before the hip pain.”

Read Their StoryMeet Alan Fleming from Dublin, a retired Irish Defense Forces service member. Alan faced debilitating knee pain after years of wear and tear from his active lifestyle, including football, ice hockey and over 33 years in military service.
Read Their StoryBy the Friday I was down to using one crutch and it felt brilliant,” he recalls. “Eleven days after the operation I didn't need my crutch for short distance walking and only required one crutch for long distance walking. Most importantly, I felt no pain for the first time in six years.
Read Their Story“My advice to anyone who has had an operation cancelled is to call Healthcare Abroad. They are the best. I actually got a call from a Dublin hospital while I was in Spain asking me if I wanted to stay on the waiting list. Thankfully I don’t.”
