“Life is so limiting when you have an injury like mine. I couldn’t get out for a short walk without being in pain due to my hip. I was becoming less sociable and unable to connect with friends. It’s tough not being able to do even a 3k Charity Walk! I’m looking forward to getting back to walking, cycling, and set dancing this summer and it will mean getting a major part of my life back.”

Never in Doubt

“Why wasn’t I hesitant? Well, I’ve had a lot of family members get surgery in Spain. That put me right at ease, so I wasn’t worried. I do have insurance so I said I may as well check about getting my hip surgery done in Ireland. I was told I would have had to wait months just to get a consultation. That was the decision made so. I was going to Spain.”

As Quick as That

“I got in touch with Healthcare Abroad in November. They told me I could get seen in December. What like this December? I couldn’t believe it. What really impressed me though was the freedom. I didn’t want to get the surgery before Christmas. I asked them if I could wait until the new year to get my hip surgery done. That was no problem. For the first time I was actually asking to wait a little bit longer to get my surgery, something that no Irish person is used to.”

“I got over here and saw my neighbour from just a mile over the road. We were waiting in the hospital together one of the days. Sun shining. Isn’t surgery supposed to be scary and a tough experience? Not over here.You’ll always have hesitation before a major life decision. People put off surgery because it’s daunting, scary even. I had my other hip replaced in Ireland 8 years ago, and the treatment is good, if you can get it. ”
