“I first came out here in April for spinal decompression. I was in a good bit of pain at the time, and a person I knew who had been here before told me about Healthcare Abroad. So I said I’d try it, and I was impressed straight away.”

Smooth Sailing

“The speed and organisation are what stood out the most. Everything was done in one run — bloods, ECG, blood pressure, seeing the doctor — all in the one day. The next morning I was fasting, and then straight in for the operation. I was maybe two or three days in recovery, and everything was very good.”

The Second Time Round

Andrew came back to Spain in October for a hip replacement, 6 months after the spinal decompression surgery. “This time around, I’ve had even more physio. I’m getting physio five days a week, and I’m doing some exercises myself now. The progress I’ve made in a week is unbelievable — I’m up, I can dress myself, shower myself. It’s brilliant.”

“The people made all the difference. The help from the drivers and the staff is absolutely fantastic. Everyone is wonderful — the drivers, the nurses, the ladies in the hospital. And you meet people from Ireland and all over when you’re having breakfast. It’s lovely. You stay in a top-class hotel and the staff went out of there way to help you, cleaning ladys were top-class. It’s a beautiful place to stay in Denia.”

The Future

Andrew is optimistic about what’s ahead. “I’m looking forward to getting back to doing a bit, you know, going to matches, doing some DIY at home. I’m seventy, but I’m feeling good.”

“Most importantly, people need to know that they don’t have to wait. I’d recommend anyone to come here. You’re not waiting at all – I was seen three weeks after I called Healthcare Abroad. They collect you at the airport, help you with everything, and everything is done for you. It’s perfect.”
